In the opening weeks, participants in the 2008-09 Theseus-EDHEC MBA will find themselves in an action-packed boot camp to learn more about time management, people management and high impact presentations - skills that will be needed throughout the programme and which will of course be useful afterwards in a professional context.
Dale Carnegie Training is present in over 75 countries and recognised internationally as the leader in bringing out the best in people. It was selected because it holds similar beliefs to the ones fostered in the MBA programme - that self-improvement and an increased skills set can help build profitable results. EDHEC approached the French branch of the training experts to build together a course for the new participants and came up with a week-long, tailored course that includes activities to help participants deal with situations they will face both in class and in everyday professional life.
PROGRAMME
Time Management
Here the participants will learn to prioritise demands, deal with stress, use procrastination to their advantage, eliminate behaviour that inhibits productivity and upgrade effective meeting skills.
People Management
Participants will learn about the need to understand people in order to gain cooperation by practicing how to deal with difficult team members and learning persuasion techniques. Activities will focus on sharpening listening skills and strengthening relationships.
High Impact Presentations
Presentation skills can always be brushed up with new techniques and increased efficiency. This module concentrates on the importance of making positive first impressions, increasing impact, motivating and inspiring confidence.
Each training course concludes by encouraging each candidate to regularly put into practice outside the programme what he has just learned. This is to further enhance his performance. Professor Metais, programme director of the Theseus-EDHEC MBA explains that there will be plenty of occasions to review these new skills throughout the programme.
"There is a strong insistence on personal development throughout the Theseus EDHEC MBA and a number of courses and modules have been devised to encourage participants to think about their role as a manager in tomorrow's world.
The opening orientation seminar develops an understanding of team effectiveness and encourages reflection on the coming year. A personal coach is on hand for participants to talk about careers development and personal fit. The programme also allows participants to analyse their personal situation, consider what they want from life and what they expect from their MBA. The Module entitled New Visions - New Ambitions concludes with a very personal reflection on the reason for being, the final end and discernment. All these modules help boost personal development and we find them very complimentary to the other courses. Each experience encourages participants to set higher goals and so they get more out of each class and build themselves new ambitions. This new boot camp will set high standards for the rest of the year - I'm sure the participants will know how to get the most out of it"
